100 Random Chromosomes (F123142) 53" x 70" (1996) - Digital Giclée Monoprints on Treated Panels

This was a first attempt to use genetic algorithms to create "paintings" in the form of high resolution digital prints. Each panel is 5.25" x 7", and 100 panels are hung in a 10 by 10 grid a bit larger than 53" x 70". Each panel corresponds to a single chromosome, and each chromosome is a collection of genes that determine the color, brush type, width, length, density, order, and shape of the marks. In some pathological cases the final brush virtually covers the entire canvas in effect creating a monochrome.
