== Biography == American Artist - Born: September 9, 1928 / Died: April 8, 2007 Sol Lewitt is most closely associated with the minimal and conceptual art movements. == Generative Art Connections == Natural Language Systems Lewitt's work often took the form of written instructions which could be executed later by others. The instructions often described marks or construction modules to be exhaustively combined presenting most or all possible permutations. As such the instructions presented generative systems autonomously creating detail beyond Lewitt's explicit instructions and not reflecting choices of the artisans executing them. == Generative Works == Wall Drawings and Modular Sculpture To be added later == Quotes and Bibliography == "In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work . . . all planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes the machine that makes the art." from "Paragraphs on Conceptual Art," Artforum, summer, 1967. == External Links == [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sol_LeWitt Wikipedia] [[Category: Artists using Symmetry & regular patterns]] [[Category: Artists using Combinatorial construction]] [[Category: Artists using The grid]] == Credits == This entry was written by Philip Galanter
